Alpha Course

Alpha is an overview of the Christian faith that is held in a small group setting, in a home, with dinner, a short film, and discussion.
If you are interested or have questions, please call Eileen at the office at 327-5522

The Alpha Course Is...

Anyone can come. Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith is welcome.

Learning and Laughter.  Join others in a relaxed atmosphere.

Pasta (or other great food).  Each weekly session begins with dinner.

Helping one another.  Dinner is followed by large-group presentation and small-group discussion.

Ask anything.  Here's your chance to ask your questions and express your opinions.

Have you ever wondered: What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? What relevance does Jesus have for our lives? How do we deal with guilt? Why does God allow starvation and suffering? Did Jesus really live? Is the Bible for real? How does forgiveness work? How do science, evolution, and God co-exist?

Then, Alpha is for you. Has anyone ever asked questions like those of you? Then Alpha is for them. At Alpha, you will come together with other interested people, and find out the answers to these questions, and more. There you will explore topics such as:

  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • Why and how do I pray?
  • What exactly is the Holy Spirit, and how does He work?
  • How can I overcome evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?
  • What about the church?
    •

When and where? The date and time of the next Alpha Course will be determined soon.  It begins with a celebration and introductory dinner along with a short introductory film. We will then begin and continue for 10 weeks, ending with another celebration and dinner. There is a short retreat after the sixth week, with the final four weeks following. We will be meeting in homes, much like early followers did to learn more about this good news being spread by Jesus and His disciples.

Each week you can expect a free dinner, a short presentation on the subject, and a discussion time. Most of the time is spent with dinner and discussion. There is no preaching. The degree of participation is entirely up to you.

If you have ever wondered about praying, God, and science, the Holy Spirit, the relevance of Jesus and the church today, read on. If you want to know more about evolution and God, how to pray, how to witness, read on.

At Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, we offer three courses per year. Everyone is welcome. Call Eileen at the church office for more information or to sign up. After each talk there is a small group time for everyone to discuss any questions or issues they have.  This gives an opportunity to get to know each other and to learn together.

A typical Alpha evening begins with a meal, a video with Nicky Gumbel (a dynamic communicator), followed by dessert and discussion. The Alpha Course has been taken by over 15 million people around the world. There is no charge. Alpha has been voted the most popular ministry in our church.
