What is Worship all about?

"Worship" comes from "worth-ship", the worthiness of God, so all of life is to be an act of worship, recognizing the worthiness of God in everything we do (Romans 12:1,2).

Worship begins and ends with God. God initiates our desire to worship. He directs, He is the subject of and the recipient of our worship.

Worship is honestly expressing our love for God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with our whole being - heart, soul, mind and strength (John 4:23,24; Mark 12:28-30)

Worship must be true to God's Word, the Bible, yet be practical for every day life. It must be Christ-centered, foster the unity of the larger Church and the congregation, and promote love and ethical living.

How Do We Worship?

Corporate worship is a celebration of the gathered Christian community. At Shadle, our primary purpose is to glorify God, with particular emphasis on the person of Jesus Christ. Through worship we seek people to be brought into ever-greater wholeness in Christ, individually and corporately.

We normally have two distinct styles of Sunday morning worship services. The first service (9:00 a.m.) is somewhat traditional, giving weight to hymns with some use of praise songs, traditional elements (e.g. choir, choral responses, robes). The second service (10:45 a.m.) features contemporary music and praise songs, while also making use of hymns and less formal prayers.

Both services seek to be sensitive to those with little or no church background; we try to avoid church jargon. While the services are intended to be sensitive to those who are still checking out the Christian faith, the focus remains on Jesus Christ.

What Should I Wear?

People are welcome to wear whatever attire they choose when they come to worship at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church.

Communion

Communion typically takes place on the 1st Sunday of each month.  Communion is open to anyone who believes they are a Christian - who calls Jesus Lord and Savior.  Membership is not necessary.
Children ages 2nd grade and up are also offered communion during the 10:45 service.
